- The BSP-1200 ultrasonic liquid processor comes standard with: 1200 W ultrasonic generator, water-cooled transducer, half-wave Barbell Horn®, flow-through reactor chamber (flow cell), heavy-duty support stand, spanner wrench set, and noise reduction ear muffs. Optional items include: full-wave Barbell Horn®, storage/mixing tank with integrated mixer, peristaltic pump, water chiller, magnetic stirrer with hotplate, jacketed beaker, NanoStabilizers®, and filters.
- The BSP-1200 processor can be used in batch and flow-through configurations (see schematics on the left). Details are available under the SPECIFICATIONS tab.
- The BSP-1200 processor utilizes patented Barbell Horn® Ultrasonic Technology (BHUT), which makes it possible to generate extremely high ultrasonic amplitudes at any scale of operation. By upgrading to our larger BHUT-based unit, the ISP-3000, any process optimized with the BSP-1200 can be directly scaled-up to an industrial production environment, while maintaining the same processing conditions and reproducible results.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the BSP-1200 ultrasonic processor used for?
The BSP-1200 is ISM’s 1200W bench-scale ultrasonic liquid processor designed for procedure optimization and medium-scale production. It handles nanoemulsion production, extraction and cell disruption, degassing and deaeration, dispersing and deagglomeration, and nano-crystallization. It operates continuously 24/7 in both batch (500 mL to 2 L) and flow-through (1 L to unlimited) configurations.
What is the difference between the BSP-1200 and the LSP-600?
The BSP-1200 is 5x faster than the LSP-600 and is designed for medium-scale production and continuous 24/7 operation, while the LSP-600 is optimized for lab-scale feasibility testing. Both use ISM’s patented Barbell Horn® Ultrasonic Technology, meaning any process developed on the LSP-600 transfers directly to the BSP-1200 without re-optimization. The BSP-1200 has ISM’s patented water cooled transducer which enables it to run continuously in the flow though configuration.
Can the BSP-1200 be scaled up to industrial production?
Yes. The BSP-1200 is the middle step in ISM’s scale-up path: LSP-600 (lab) → BSP-1200 (bench) → ISP-3600 (industrial). Because all three processors use the same BHUT technology, processes optimized on the BSP-1200 scale directly to the ISP-3600 while maintaining the same amplitudes, processing conditions, and reproducible results.
What is the flow rate and processing capacity of the BSP-1200?
In batch mode with the FBH horn, the BSP-1200 handles 500 mL to 2 L. In flow-through mode, it handles 1 L to unlimited volume. Productivity rates range from approximately 1 L/h for demanding tasks like pharmaceutical nanocrystallization, up to 50+ L/h for fast processes such as degassing or deagglomeration.
Is the BSP-1200 suitable for pharmaceutical and food applications?
Yes. All wetted parts are food compatible: 316 stainless steel reactor chamber, Ti6Al4V titanium horns (HBHB, FBH, HBH), and Buna-N or Teflon gaskets. The system carries CE and TÜV certification and is used in pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, cannabis, food & beverage, and cosmetic manufacturing.
